EuroSTAR 2008 - Impressions

. Posted in Users_external

The 16th EuroSTAR software testing conference– Europe’s leading event in the field – was held this year in Den Haag, under the theme “The Future of Testing.” This year more than 800 participants received an in-depth overview of the latest software testing industry developments and trends.

I thought EuroStar 2008 was a great conference. The Keynotes, Manifesto Workshops and tracks were strong and informing in my opinion.

I decided to visit a couple of the interactive workshop, such on the testing manifesto and ISO testing standard. The first session that I had attended was about the Route Cards to Reach 2013 – Mapping the Profession” organized by Isabel Evans. After the introduction the group was split in small groups where we had a nice discussion about testing with Paul Gerrard. One thing I learned is that in testing community everyone has his one opinion and that I will be difficult to get them all at one line.

James Whittaker presentation was a great look into the future of Microsoft in the medical software industry. If you have watched this clip you know for sure that there is a future for testing (or do you believe these possibilities after you have seen a blue screen or other error message).

The workshop by Stuart Reid on the ISO 29119 standard was interesting but makes it clear again that we can’t put everything in a standard process… A good tester is flexible and a strong communicator and knows when to use a process and when not!

Michael Bolton is a great and enthusiastic personality on stage and I enjoyed his workshop on  heuristics very much. The first part of the session was an discussion where he brought out a lot of well-known heuristic examples. This was the start for the second half where the attendees were able to address there won heuristic.

My personal favorite keynote was again from Michael Bolton with his presentation on Two Futures of Software Testing. In one word great, just read it and think that he was standing there as a devil or an angel!!

Next year the event will be in Stockholm and I hope I have the change to be there again. Dorothy Graham will be the chairlady next year so keep a close watch at here website.

I would like to thank all people organized this wonderful and feel right at home. Specially I want to thank the Capgemini expo stand for letting me enjoying the best cappuccino ever.

You all did a great job!
